Routines to Stay Connected to the Lord

Hurry with your answer, GOD!

I’m nearly at the end of my rope.

Don’t turn away; don’t ignore me!

That would be certain death.

If you wake me each morning with the sound of your loving voice,

I’ll go to sleep each night trusting in you.

Point out the road I must travel;

I’m all ears, all eyes before you.

Psalm 143:7-8 MSG

How many relate to David’s cry for the Father’s help? We may not be running for our physical life, but we are holding on by our fingernails. Many of us may feel paralyzed by a lack of decision or the absence of any idea of how to move forward through the current obstacle. The obstacle may be a staffing issue, an ill family member, a hostile board, or any other endless list of issues we all face every single day.

Yet, David provides a priceless process to make it through the struggles of the day.

1. Be honest before God. Pour your heart out to the Father, and speak your concerns to Him. Stop going to others with little more experience than yourself. Go to the Lord.

2. Wake every morning with daily time with the Lord. I speak this on repeat to all of you, but making sure your morning begins with time in Scripture and with the Lord is your lifeline in Christian leadership.

3. Rest your mind in the evening by trusting God. Fall asleep to audio Scripture or Christian meditations to help you rest in the Lord.

4. Seek the Lord for guidance. In my first years of leadership, I asked the Lord for advice in all decisions. Slowly, I became more confident in my own abilities. Slowly, I stopped asking the Lord for guidance. You can imagine how well that worked, and I needed to fall right back into my Father’s will and direction.

Making a morning routine that includes your time with the Lord is vital for leadership. You must remain connected to Him for His guidance, wisdom, sustainability, and hope. You can wake up fifteen to twenty minutes earlier. Isn’t that tiny sacrifice worth the countless benefits of this routine?

Praying for you all,

Ashley
