Listen, GOD! Please, pay attention!
Can you make sense of these ramblings,
my groans and cries?
King-God, I need your help.
Every morning
you’ll hear me at it again.
Every morning
I lay out the pieces of my life on your altar
and watch for fire to descend.
Psalm 143:7-8 MSG
A college student looked at me and stated plainly, “Discipline brings discipline.” I am not sure if she heard this from someone else, but it was her personal mantra. She found that when she made her bed every morning led to spending time with the Lord, more disciplined financial decisions, and her study habits became better.
I began to test this idea, and I was blown away by the impact. I do not make my bed every day, but my daily time with the Lord is my grounding place. That discipline sets the stage for daily routines.
When an individual is struggling with addictions, they are constantly advised to build routines. The reason for routines is that they require fewer decisions. Routines ground us, and free our minds from fewer countless decisions every single day.
Give it a try this week, and find the freedom within routines. It may surprise you as much as it surprised me!
Praying for you all,
Ashley
